KOMAN ILEL is an alternative community communications collective with a focus in popular communications. Overall, the collectiveness that we build together is a way of working and seeing the world; this is expressed in our name which means in Maya Tzotzil, “Collective View”. It is a pluralized, free, independent and critical view that works together with a profound political conviction towards the construction of a dignified and autonomous life.

We work from Chiapas for the world, intending to promote a national and international articulation. We believe in the reciprocity of thinking local and acting global. With our productions it is our intent to support the struggles of people who seek to create a new world in which equality, freedom, peace, justice and dignity are expressed and lived; constructing information from our collective view with a critical perspective, but which overall is a hopeful one.

Our communications seeks not only to denounce, but to also highlight and celebrate the fact that in this world people continue in the struggle. We want to tell the other reality, so that it will escape from silence and forgetting, and so that it will motivate other changes: to see the world not as cruel and terrible hole, but as a place where people don’t give up, where people dream and also work, to see the world as a place where, despite the daily injustices, hope prevails. We seek to highlight and share these efforts towards change, these experiences which nurture this vision as daily examples that will help us follow the necessary steps to construct a better future.

Thanks to our many ways of seeing and doing, we are learning from each other all the time, and for this same reason we value the importance of engaging with other people, collectives and organizations, whom also view their work in this in this way: with sharing and reciprocity! We believe in self-managing processes, perpetual learning, and having clarity with what we learn, teach, and teach-through-learning. In our daily walking together we feel a small community with a strong affective link, in which we mutually choose not only to work with each other, but also to construct and reconstruct ourselves hand in hand as we celebrate life. In this sense, we propose to be every day “the change that we want to see in the world” just as Gandhi said.

Koman Ilel, Collective View, is not just a group of people, it is another way to look at the world, it is a way to reinvent it.

PRODUCTION

Through spoken and written word, audio, video and graphic communication, we want to spread our message and the message of communities and organizations who share our points of view and our way of understanding the world. We want to move hearts and we attempt to do so through the creation of communicative materials.

TRAINING AND ACCOMPANIMENT

Communication by everybody for everybody means that communication shouldn´t be in the experts´ hands. It is the responsibility of  everyone who has had the opportunity to learn technical knowledge in communicationto share what they know, so that communication not be the exclusive right of a certain few and therefore that the manner in which the world is portrayed by the  Media not be that of just a small Group.

SELF-CONSTRUCTION

“To build another world” is a beautiful idea. The only way to turn it into reality and go beyond the simplistic concept is to change it into action. This is why our ideals, first of all, are thought through collectively and undergo constant reflection and criticism. We achieve this by seeing ourselves as older and younger brothers and sisters the whole time. We know that we always have something to learn from and something to teach eachother.
